The world was different 10 years ago. Billionaires were being created almost daily, housing prices were going bonkers, airports were still relatively non invasive, and the worst our president had done was receive a blowjob from a slightly homely intern. Oh and people still bought CDs, many of which were by a virginal southern belle by the name of Britney Spears.

We all remember this cover… a sort of trademark shoot by David LaChapelle that I have idolized since the day it came out. I was 14 and in my prime masturbation years and I’m not gonna lie and say this didn’t occasionally make it into the imagery used. I mean we knew… we knew this girl was no virgin when we first laid eyes on her. “I think I want to stay a virgin till I’m married” she told magazines around the time of this cover and by g-d… some people just totally believed it.

Not entirely like this economy I’d like you to imagine. During the late 90s we were reaching new heights of prosperity in the real estate market and economy in general, things were being done in lets say…hmm liberal ways but since everyone was doing great and making money nobody wanted to question the systems basic virginity.

Now it’s 2009 and things have changed. Billionaires are being deflated by the day and we’re all starting to see the true nature of things. The light on the problem has been a bit harsh and not entirely flattering all the time, this is to be expected. You can’t go through a breakdown like Britney’s and expect everything to be ok. Think about it… we had Kevin Federline, September 11th, Losing the kids, Madoff… But things are looking pretty bright I think.

I mean who knows whether she’ll flare out and get lost in the shuffle of time, and I don’t know whether the US will learn from its mistakes and set a new course. [Dropping Sam Lufti=Dependence on foreign oil?] But if we can all pull ourselves up by our collective boot straps and make a music video as good as this then I think America and miss Britney Spears are gonna be just fine.

I just wanted to share this site with you people… I’m a huge fan of how funny this guy is. In order to enjoy him it’s quite important I would say to be somewhat literate, a bit patient, and have a fairly large size computer screen if you expect to actually read all his fine print… but if you have all those things I trust you will love this intelligent take on the common comic strip.

Dear Blog,

Ok jesus I’m sorry ok… listen I have a bit of an inertia problem. And when I thought I could take a couple days away from my computer and maybe be halfway responsible… yea didn’t happen.

So where does that leave us… ok well my last post was like many days ago… I think 20 that means that in order to catch up with where I should be I’ll have to do at least three posts for the next 10 days in order to catch up. I feel like this is possible mostly because the last twenty days have actually been pretty jam packed and awesome!!

Lets review shall we… I left for Miami to do a T-Pain music video and was there for a long time… which was fine with me because I fucking love that city. So lots of talk and pictures to follow on that trip. Also then I got back to DC to really start working on this new DC party… I’ve met some interesting people here and will have more on that later of course. Pictures have been taken for a Berlin based city guide website that is badass that my sister just became photo editor for (yay!!!). Music has definitely been found. We need to have a chat about the youth again… they continue to freak me out. Basically I missed you all and I’m back to stay…

Erin Wasson is clearly my favorite model these days. She just did a collection with RVCA that’s kinda awesome and we got a sneak peak in the penthouse of Milk Studios. I’m pretty excited about how these iphone pictures look after just a bit of work… nothing mindblowing but hey… stop complaining… you’ll get what you get.

I wouldn’t have been there if hadn’t been for these two amazing people. My best friend Steven and his fiance Raquel opened their lives to me for the three days I was around and it was an absolute pleasure. I love them both more than I can say. Now Steven and I will head down to sunny Miami Beach to get back to the business of making music videos… waaaaatch out Miami!!!!

Anyway… at least I have a semi legitimate reason for being so negligent with your hearts and minds. This last week has been Fashion Week in NYC and since I have this new found proximity to Manhattan I made it a point to join the action. Luckily I have some brilliant friends that made my time unforgettable. I’ll give my quick recap in a couple mini segments because I actually went up for three days and then left… and came back the next day for another three days… thus is my life.

So the trip starts like such… I fly up to NYC just in time to shoot the Raquel Allegra F/W 09 party at Assembly in the LES. I try a new technique for party portraits and its something I can learn from… here are some pics from that.

The end of segment one…

When I moved to New York the city was experiencing a “moment” of sorts that was special beyond even the normal craziness attributed to Manhattan. While I was preparing to write this I had to wonder whether this feeling was justified. Is it vain to think that I could have possibly been part of a movement… of something truly game changing?

I think the answer lies in the internet and more specifically in social networks. We take them for granted now but it was only a few years ago that they did not exist at all and even less time that they existed to serve the masses like they do today. Back in ‘04 these burgeoning communities were mostly made up of trendsetters and computer nerds (don’t ask which one I was) and for the former group the profile picture suddenly became a huge issue. This vain desire for the proper portrait would create international sensations out of 3 underage DJs named after a Pulp Song and a tall black Warholian named Merlin. MisShapes gave kids a weekly portrait with credibility and LastNightsParty.com exposed the downtown debauchery and the kids that caused it to the world at large and nightlife and the internet haven’t been the same since.

Its been almost five years now since I landed in Brooklyn and the internet has evolved and transformed to a point that’s almost unrecognizable. But I feel very secure in saying that vanity still plays a huge role in how the internet has changed and how we have changed with the internet. Whether we’re whining to the world on our blog or transcribing the minutiae of our daily lives via twitter the underlying message is that everyone has something worth sharing and that everything shared has an audience waiting to ingest it.

Since I am a bit of a web 2.0 fanatic I spend an inordinate amount of my time trying to properly capture and understand this zeitgeist. Recently I’ve become quite obsessed with what I feel is a transformative addition to the already crowded chat landscape. The site is called Stickam and it combines regular chat room features with the wonders of webcam and the youth have gone gaga over it. As can be expected its hormonally charged with tons of quasi pedophilic ramblings but hey… its an internet chatroom… nothing new there.

What’s amazing is how this takes the ME generation to a whole new level. The ability to create your own live video broadcast where hundreds of people can gather to focus totally on you takes the 15 minutes of fame paradigm to a whole new level. Just observing these kids will blow your mind… this next generaton is going to be CRAZY!! So let it be known webcrawlers… counting your blog comments or YouTube video hits no longer needs to be your measure of online popularity. Now you can become a Stickam Entertainer and watch the video spots fill up… oh and I’ll be the one in the panama hat.
